Over 160 billion user-generated videos will be produced in 2012, generating more than $1.19 billion in worldwide revenues, according to In-Stat’s “User-Generated Video, a Global Stage for You” report.
“User-generated video and the video sharing sites that exemplify this form of content have spread across the globe,” said Michael Inouye, analyst at In-Stat, in a statement.
“China is a prime example of user-generated video’s global reach and appeal, capturing a significant portion of the world market, making it second only to the US,” Mr. Inouye added. “In general, viewing of online video has increased in the US in the past year, although participation is still stratified by age.”
In-Stat predicted that online video viewing would continue to drive bandwidth consumption worldwide. Besides increased viewing of professional video online, the research company said that more amateurs are recording on high-definition video, resulting in larger file sizes.
